I don’t know about you, but when I start planning a wedding the first thought that comes to mind is, “how is this going to be different than any other wedding?” Being the lead designer on our team I am also particularly sensitive to ensuring the couple’s individuality is also represented in their special day. I believe each couple should stand out from the crowd. I mean… It’s you, it’s your day it shouldn’t look like any other. Let’s look at 6 truly unique wedding invitation ideas below!

Personality meets style starting with the design phase. Our process begins by getting to know what our couple client likes their interests, hobbies, even home décor. (Because, what better way to understand your personality than getting a glimpse into your home.) Taking all the information we have plus looking at Pinterest boards or inspiration pictures, likes and dislikes, chosen venue and desired experience we start at the end and work our way to the beginning. Meaning, we create the entire vision of the day from what champagne will be served, to lighting, time of day, entertainment, weather, florals, colors, etc. Then we move into the details like signs, invitations, name cards and save the dates. 

Which brings me to designing invitations that are as unique as you and give your guests a WOW first impression of your wedding day. Below are my favorite invitation ideas for making a fantastic and memorable first impression that is all your own. 

1.) Get Artsy
What better way to have a one-of-a-kind invite than one created by a fine artist? This is absolutely one of my favorite invite ideas because you can be as opulent or simplistic as you like and the art may be used for your welcome sign, menus, place cards, thank you and more. 

2.) Mini Book
There is nothing more unique to you than your story so share it with your guests in a mini book invite. Include pictures of you along with event details all in a keepsake style invite. To be honest we had a hard time finding an example of this specific idea (which should tell you how unique it is!). So we did this little mockup to give you a better idea of what it would look like. Keep it simple and small, include personal photos, and the wedding details. A 2×3 book is only $4.96 from Walmart and you can include your entire love story!

3.) A Sprig

I am an absolute gluten for fresh herbs and flowers and for my BoHo couples this is my top pick for giving your guests a sneak peak at either what’s on the menu (slip in a sprig of cilantro or rosemary secured to your invite with jute). Or, the vibe of your nature inspired celebration (lavender, grass, baby’s breath sprigs tied with a simple ribbon). Try to keep the sprigs small and tight so they don’t make a mess of your guests counter when they open the invite.  

4.) A Sprig + Eco Friendly

Etsy is a great resource to use. These are only $0.93 each!
Take it a step further and send your invite on plantable paper! 

5.) Venue Inspired

Labels can be found on Etsy and we suggest Trader Joes, or Costco for inexpensive wine choices unless it is in your budget to send a bottle from your winery.
I know, how vague! But here is what I mean, if you are getting married at a winery send a cork, a wine bottle, a bottle opener. If you are getting married on the beach, send a treasure map, a beach survival kit with sunscreen, glasses, sun visor each with another piece of info or message in a bottle. 

6.) Puzzle Pieces

I fell in love with blank puzzles from Amazon because you make it into anything you want and when you share it the activity is fun to unravel the mystery. We used these last Christmas to give a ski trip spread out among lots of little gifts. 

In todays world of Pinterest Weddings, and Instagram styled shoots it can be difficult to find truly unique wedding details for your day. With the right eye and an understanding of lighting, amazing portraits can be captured just about anywhere. 
With Agnes and Travis this was a perfect moment to take some amazing photos in a very busy location that is absolutely important to the two of them. They were willing to show up at the right time for proper lighting (I came with lights in hand just in case since overcast was off and on) during a very busy time on this specific trail. You'd never guess that in this moment the public was just about everywhere. 

These are amazing moments. When you can simply envelope yourself into the world of each other and see that nothing else matters. This is love! and I love Capturing it!

The Story of a Photographer

I am a father of 11 children! Yep... you read that right. I have 4 little one's in Heaven and the other 6 are here giving me life and laughter and a little frustration along the way(haha) and one on the way!! 

I've always been the artistic type since I was a child. Sketches, paintings, music and almost anything to do with creating has been a part of my life. From my father oil painting in the garage to my uncle running around with his film camera taking street photography, art has been a part of my life.

I first picked up a semi-pro camera when I married my beautiful wife 10 years ago to capture these moments in our life that fly so fast. I began self teaching myself by assisting local professional wedding photographers and made the move into professional gear. With the miraculous technical advancements of Social Media, people began expressing their love for my art and things began to move forward.

Fast forward up to today and I can't get enough. 

I love capturing Love in all it's forms. Engagements, weddings and families touch so many parts of my personal life. Each session is a literal reminder of this amazing life that I live.

Walking through Tamory Hall for the first time, we knew we needed to create a shoot in their space. It just so happened in the next few weeks we had two vendors reach out wanting to collaborate on a design at Tamory Hall! From there, all the details started falling into place. My design goal for this project was to create a modern and urban event. I wanted to create the dancing vibe from table to dance floor, so I incorporated flower vases inspired to look like disco balls and iridescent champagne flutes. A lot of times wedding designs can begin to look the same (all beautiful of course), but with this shoot I wanted to stretch my horizons with design. Using a darker color palette and architecturally interesting pieces helped me achieve my goal. For the shoot date, we originally had it on the books for April 2020, but as we all know COVID hit in March. With safety and best outcome in mind, we made the decision to postpone the shoot until we could all meet safely while bringing our best game to the table.

As wedding planners, COVID brought a whole new level of planning and coordinating. One part of the industry taking a large hit was wedding dances and music. How would it be possible to social distance AND throw an awesome dance party? If you are like me, I LOVE to dance, but my level of confidence in my dance moves peaks when I am in a crowd of people. The idea of having to boldly bust a move while six feet apart did not sound appealing to me. I wanted a balance of safely getting groovy while not giving a personal recital to those around me. My brain started whirling with the idea of only doing line dances, but we ran into the issue of still not everyone knowing the moves in order to participate. We needed awesome music paired with easy to learn in the moment dance moves. Then it hit us - JUST DANCE!

JUST DANCE pairs simple dance moves with awesome music. It plays easily on a screen and over a sound system. A DJ could even coordinate their own mixes to the dance moves!! At Tamory Hall, there are multiple TVs available for use at any event. Most venues have this option because they host private events and corporate events. By having each TV playing JUST DANCE, guests can jam out, follow the dance moves, or make up their own while social distancing. Just because COVID impacted your wedding day doesn’t mean you have to give up on your initial plan. COVID just forced us to become more creative and tap into our ability to adapt as humans.

Hey friend! Like many photogs out there, I picked up a camera really young. And because memory loss runs in my family, I learned early on that it’s the little details that go a long way. I never wanted to forget parts of my childhood and young adulthood, so it became second nature for me to document the things I loved with photographs in a very real and candid way. Fast forward to today, I couldn’t feel luckier that this hobby became a career focused on preserving life’s most previous moments for others. I'm a fun, kinda goofy, laughter-filled gal who LOVES to capture those in love with her camera. So if you don’t mind running around, sharing a laugh (or several), talking about fur babies, or hearing me hype you up with “YAAAAS” throughout our session, then I think we have a really great shot at capturing some really amazing memories together.

I’m Wendy Solomon, owner of Wendy Jade Photography in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.  I fell in love with photography when my sister gave me a camera as a high school graduation gift.  From then on, I was the annoying friend who brought my camera everywhere, and photographed everything, no matter how mundane.

It was so important to me to document the events in life.  Even back then, I understood that your memories are greatly enhanced by the detail photographs can provide.  Pictures are keepsakes, and I want to help preserve the most memorable times of your life.

I married my sweetheart, Roy, on Friday the 13th of December, 1985.  Having a husband/best friend by my side for that long reinforces my love of photographing weddings and getting to be a part of the beginning of another couple’s journey.

I would describe my work as colorful, bright, and “unposed”.  Color is probably single thing that defines me and my work – I feel like I live my life out loud, in color, and I want my photos to reflect that.

I love what I do. I know, I know, that's what every photographer says. But seriously. It took my whole life to figure out what I wanted to do and once I found it, I took it and ran with it. I've always loved creating images. From disposable cameras to my first photography class in college, I've always loved being able to capture memories. Every session is unique, every person is unique, and every moment is different from the last. That's what makes it special every time. But what separates me from the rest, is that I started with a landscape photography background, so I always like to make sure everything in the picture, is just as beautiful as the people in it. 
I'm married to the love of my life and best friend Rachel. My favorite color is midnight blue, pop punk music is a staple in my life and when I'm not photographing weddings you can find me hiking, golfing, or chasing sunsets Top any of those off with a dutch crunch deli sandwich and a cold kombucha and I'm as happy as I can be.

I am an empath and a photographer, a mother and a friend. I bring all of those to the table when you are working with me. As an empath it allows me to feel your connection and in turn create images that truly feel like you. As a mother and a friend I will always bring to the table the nurturing hype girl. The one that will help you pin that hard-to-reach curl and hold your grandmother's hand with as much love as you would, while also reminding you of the actual badass you are.
I'm a Leo sun, Pisces moon, Capricorn Rising and an enneagram 2. Always down for a road trip, sunny days and to put my bare feet on the earth. I'm deeply passionate, I love with my whole heart and believe in the power to create positive change wherever you are.
